Restaurant & Cuisine

Welcome to the restaurant of the Althof Retz

The "Weinviertel serenity"

Our restaurant is light and airy on all sides thanks to the large amount of glass. In 3 salons you can enjoy à la carte or with our Weinbeißer half-board regional down-to-earthness with a touch of Mediterranean lifestyle. Our menu is constantly updated with seasonal specialities. In addition, we offer our Weinbeißer evening menu every evening – a daily changing, enjoyable 5-course menu, which can of course also be ordered individually for smaller appetites. Needless to say, you can also request a wine accompaniment, 4 wines carefully selected by our sommelier from the over 250 wines in our own wine cellar!

from the Rogner distillery

We only use flawless and seasonal fruit – pome fruit, stone fruit and berries – from the region for our distillates. Citrus fruits from Calabria for the gin and molasses for our rum.

We also have the grain fields right on our doorstep. Only the ripe, full grain, where we use up to three different varieties for production, makes the whisky what it is. Since 2013, we have been using only ancient grains and transforming them into flavourful whisky.

There are also a few hectares of forest on the family farm. The wood for the distillery therefore also comes from our own forestry.

from the Haider distillery

Roggenreith is a small village in the Waldviertel. The Waldviertel is as mystical as the Scottish highlands, as structurally weak as Ireland and almost as lonely as the Canadian wilderness.

Rye has been grown around Roggenreith for centuries, in keeping with the name of the village. And for just as many years, it has only been used to make bread. Until 1995, when the “Waldviertler Roggenhof” went one step further and began distilling the grain.

Grape juice

from the Kamptner winery

The beginnings of our winery date back some 200 years, when our ancestors first produced wine, mainly for their own consumption. Today, we cultivate 4 hectares of vineyards, the basis of our high-quality wines, which we sell directly from the farm, by telephone or by home delivery.

For a special experience, we offer harvest taster days. Our membership of the Schmidatal Landscape Park also raises our profile across the Weinviertel Wine Route and into the Retzer Land region.

Fruit juices

from the Göthans fruit farm

In the Waldviertel, but close to the border with the Weinviertel, lies the small apple village of Missingdorf. The Göthans fruit farm with its apple orchards is located between well-tended orchards and vineyards.

Gerald Göthans produces high-quality fruit juices, nectars, fine spirits and vinegar variations with passion and tradition – all from his own cultivation. Quality always takes centre stage and you can taste it. Our efforts are documented by various certifications, e.g. we produce according to the guidelines of the AMA seal of quality.
